This is About the Warriors!

🎗️ In Honor and Celebration of Our Cancer Warriors 🎗️

At the Bo’s Roast & Chili Cook-Off 2027, we gathered not only to raise funds—but to honor the real heroes among us. Those who continue to fight, those who fought with grace, and those whose memory continues to inspire us every day. To the Warriors Still Fighting: Your strength, your courage, and your resilience are the heartbeat of why we gather. We see you. We support you. We walk beside you. To the Warriors We’ve Lost: Your legacy lives on in every hug shared, every dollar raised, and every life touched. We carry your spirit forward in our mission. 💛 Your names will be spoken, your lives celebrated, your battles never forgotten. Bo’s Roast is—and always will be—for you.

Bo’s Backyard BBQ Challenge

New for 2027!

Think your family and friends rave about your pulled pork?

Now it’s your chance to prove it.

The 16th Annual Bo’s Roast & Chili Cook-Off is proud to introduce the inaugural Bo’s Backyard BBQ Challenge, a friendly competition designed exclusively for backyard pitmasters.

We’re looking for six amateur teams to battle for bragging rights, Viking trophies, and the title of Bo’s Backyard BBQ Champion.

This isn’t a competition for restaurants or professional BBQ teams.

It’s for the backyard legends who spend weekends tending the smoker, perfecting family recipes, and claiming they make the best pulled pork in the Lowcountry.

If that sounds like you, we want you to compete.

Competition Details

Competition Category: Pulled Pork (Boston Butt/Pork Butt)

Available Team Spots: 6

Entry Fee:

Each team should plan to prepare enough pulled pork to serve approximately 300 one-ounce tasting samples, in addition to a separate judging sample for our celebrity judges.

Guests will vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice BBQ Challenge, so every sample is an opportunity to earn their vote.

Who Can Enter?

The Bo’s Backyard BBQ Challenge is open to amateur backyard pitmasters only.

Eligible competitors include:

  • Individuals

  • Families
  • Neighborhood teams
  • Co-workers

Competition Format

Teams will prepare their pulled pork using their own recipes and techniques before arriving at the event.

Each team will:

  • Submit a sample for celebrity judging.
  • Serve bite-sized samples to event guests.
  • Decorate their booth and showcase their team spirit.
  • Compete for three championship awards.

Awards

🏆 Grand Champion BBQ
Awarded to the highest-scoring team as selected by our celebrity judges.

🏆 People’s Choice BBQ
Voted on by event attendees.

🏆 Best BBQ Booth
Awarded to the team with the most creative, engaging, and spirited booth presentation.

Each winning team will receive a custom Bo’s Roast Viking Trophy and, more importantly, year-long bragging rights.

Why We Created This Competition

For 16 years, Bo’s Roast has been known as one of the Lowcountry’s favorite chili cook-offs.

In 2027, we’re adding something new.

The Backyard BBQ Challenge celebrates the incredible amateur pitmasters throughout our community while continuing to support the mission of Islands Against Cancer, Inc.

Every team, every ticket, and every bite helps provide technology advocacy, patient navigation, education, and support for cancer warriors and their caregivers throughout our community.

Think You Have What It Takes?

Only six teams will be accepted for the inaugural competition.

If your friends already say you make the best pulled pork around…

It’s time to prove it.

Apply today and become one of the original six Backyard BBQ Challenge competitors.
